Metro-area County clerks are partnering April 7-11 for “High School Student Voter Registration Awareness Week.”
Representatives from Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson Counties will promote voter registration and pre-registration for high school students. Arapahoe County will visit Sheridan High School on April 7, and other schools later in the month. State law allows 15- 16- and 17-year-old students to pre-register to vote when applying for a learner’s permit, drivers license or State ID.
“Helping students register to vote isn’t just about encouraging them to vote in the next election, it empowers the next generation to have a voice in shaping their future,” said Clerk and Recorder Joan Lopez. “The earlier they start, the stronger our democracy will be."
Arapahoe County recently increased its focus on engaging young voters, who historically vote at lower rates than other age groups:
- In 2024, the County conducted a social media advertising campaign on Tik Tok, Instagram and YouTube to encourage 18– to 24-year-olds to vote and use trusted sources of election information, and
- In January 2025, Arapahoe county’s Elections Division created the Community Services subdivision to engage with schools and community groups and ensure access to election information and resources County-wide.
Students (and voters or potential voters of all ages) can visit www.ArapahoeVotes.gov to register to vote, find accurate elections information and learn more about voting access and options, how to become an election judge, election misinformation and more.
