Bipartisan Canvass Certifies June Election Results

Designees from Arapahoe County’s Democratic and Republican parties met with Clerk and Recorder Joan Lopez and Elections Director Bill Mast on Monday, July 15, to review data and information from the June Primary and Congressional Vacancy Election.

After a thorough review of data including ballots cast, total active eligible voters and other relevant information, Clerk Lopez, Centennial City Councilmember Don Sheehan, and Democratic designee Gail Pennington all signed to certify the results, effectively closing the June Election and making those results official.

Sheehan served as the Republican Party’s representative for the Canvass, Risk Limiting Audit and the Logic and Accuracy Test. He was impressed by the level of detail, scrutiny and thoroughness with which the entire election was conducted.

“There are a lot of processes you have to go through to make sure the election is what it should be,” Sheehan said. “To see all the checks and balances … it’s an eye opener, it really is.”
